Boykin Spaniels Collie-eye study.
OptiGen Labratory and Gregory M. Acland, BVSc are looking at unrelated Boykin spaniels to determine how prevelant CEA is in this breed.
CEA can be detected by a certified ophthalmologist at 5-6 weeks of age. Sometimes by the time the pup is 8-weeks old there are no physical signs, known as "go-normal".
The only way to determine if your Boykin is affected, a carrier, or clear of the disorder is through a DNA test.
Dr. Acland is looking at 20 Boykins with different grandparents to get a good sampling of the breed.
